Field Notes: UINTA CHIPMUNK

The Uinta Chipmunk is a medium sized Chipmunk that runs with its tail horizontal instead of the more common vertical of other species. It can be found in several small regions of western North America living in trees in the mountains.

Uinta Chipmunk looking for more handouts

The specific Uinta Chipmunk in these photos was apparently very used to people at this location, as it would come right up to people and beg for food. In one instance it startled a woman who had been sitting on a stone wall, unaware the Chipmunk was there. It ran up to her side and put its paw on her pants. She nearly jumped out of them.
