Field Notes: COMMON GREEN DARNER

The Common Green Darner is a large dragonfly colored green and blue. It is one of the more common of the dragonflies. I spent close to an hour following and photographing the Common Green Darner in this photograph. I was determined to capture a flight photo. The darner was large enough and was flying slowly enough I thought I could capture it. As I watched it I realized it was flying a very regular pattern. So I set up the tripod and just continued following its movements, over and over again. I'm sure I looked crazy to some of the folks out walking, but I was very pleased with the results. I hope to get more practice photographing dragonflies in flight in the future.
