Male Ring-necked Duck flapping wings

The Ring-necked Duck is a diving duck somewhat similar in appearance to Scaups. It distinguishes itself with a black-tipped bill with a white ring, as well as a white ring around the base of the bill. The female is somewhat non-descript, but has a ring around the eyes. The male has a black back and gray wings with a white stripe before the wing, though that stripe is not very distinct in the photos on this page. The male's eyes stand out significantly more than the female's. The photo above shows 2 males following a female. The photo below shows a male flapping its wings.
